I know this is a stupid question but I don't have much Experience with well pumps.
I'm trying to figure out if this is a 3 or 2 wire pump. It's a teel 230v 1/2hp submersible well pump it has three wires (red yellow and black). It also has a control box so I'm thinking its a three wire but it dose not have a fourth ground wire.

It was installed in the early 1990s by my dad but he has since past away so I can't ask him.
I have read that early pumps didn't use a ground wire. That's why I think it's a three wire pump. Just trying to figure it out so I can Order a replacement. Also what is a good replacement brand? I've been looking at Flotec.

Also If it matters it came out of a 180ft well in mid south Missouri. It's also on hunting land so it only gets used 3-4 months a year.

Thank you. image.jpgimage.jpg

Its considered a "three wire", which needs the control box. But if you are replacing it, you could go back with a two wire, no control box, then your third wire could be the ground. Flotec??? But not sure it is worth two or three times as much for a "contractor grade" Franklin motor and a Grundfos/Goulds/etc. pump?
