Is it good practice when the ~button~ / plunger in a diverter valve get's sticky - to remove it off the valve body and just add some sort of grease...

Mineral deposits may need to be cleaned off. Silicon based plumber's grease helps keep a CLEAN one working well longer. But, some of them end up being pitted, and then they don't work well unless replaced.

Usually, by the time it gets like that, it is worn to the point where it should be replaced. You have to remove it to "grease it" anyway.
