Hi,
I am replacing a tub and its fixtures. The drain kit assembly is older than me (50+ years) and I have been planning to replace it, even though it has no leaks.
The replacement unit I purchased (see http://www.moen.com/shared/docs/product-specifications/90410sp.pdf or http://www.moen.com/shared/docs/instruction-sheets/ins1680.pdf) has a 3" pipe below the waste shoe (please scroll to the bottom of http://www.moen.com/shared/docs/product-specifications/90410sp.pdf to see the 3" pipe). The problem is that in my current assembly that piece is almost 4" long. If I sweat the current set up and install the new part, the waste show will be below the floor.
What options are there? The local Home Improvement center did not seem to have a solution, other than suggesting I keep the existing set up and replace the waste shoe and trip assembly with the one from the new kit... Definitely would be easier. But, I am not sure if that's a good idea.
What do you suggest?
