Gould JS 07 bluzzing and trips breaker

If I give it a lite tap it takes off.... a tap prior to power makes it go too.

Starting Switch? Assume that's the mechanism that closes the circuit on main shaft going
to the motor [?].

Yes, the centrifugal weights with the springs cause the switch to toggle from start to run. When the motor stops, it's supposed to switch back to the start windings.

You could try a tiny bit of oil on the pivot points of the weights and springs. Also, it looks like one of the springs is in backwards.

Ok.. got it working fine.

Did switch the spring back as it should be.. did not help. Must have been mounted that way
back when... I bought it used yrs ago.

Bolt mounting the switch was loose by a turn. Tightened it down.. away she went.
