Water Softener Advice

I bought a new home last year. It has a drilled well that is about 130ft deep. The home has never had a water softener and I would like to install one. I would like suggestions for a good DIY water softener. I don't want something that is going to be expensive to maintain or use tons of electricity. I just did a water test and got the results back. It shows my water hardness at 288 I also attached the metals report. Let me now if anything stands out as a problem.

There's no such thing as a good DIY softener. There are certainly softeners that are of varying quality but as far as ease of installation, they all pretty much install the same way. That said, there are several online companies selling Fleck and Autotrol valves that are very good quality indeed. Clack is going to be harder for a DIY'er to get hold of and if you have warranty, installation or other issues with it, you may run into problems as Clack is no longer supporting the DIY community.

OK, install isn't the issue. I want feed back on the brand of softener is the best and maybe if I need to look for more then just a softener with what my test result were.

As Tom said, I'd stick with Fleck,mostly because of Clack's snotty attitude. There are 4 or 5 online sellers that are often mentioned on the forum, so spend some time reading here and check out their websites. That post was aimed at the OP's location (Texas), but the same advice applies to Wisconsin. Your county extension office should be able to offer general guidance for what's needed in your area. Start at http://www.uwex.edu/ces/cty/.

There's a good website for sizing your softener at http://www.qualitywaterassociates.com/softeners/sizingchart.htm. Gives you a good introduction to what's involved, and seerves as a check on what any vendor might recommend.
