This is the 12"x20" model shown here with optional Ardex 8+9 waterproofing installed. A play by play of how these went in is shown later in this thread (pages 2 and 3)....
Here is a list of the four sizes available in the Kerdi Board Shower niche.
- 12" x 6" (305 mm x 152 mm)
- 12" x 12" (305 mm x 305 mm)
- 12" x 20" (305 mm x 508 mm)
- 12" x 28" (305 mm x 711 mm)

Installation Instructions for Kerdi Board SN Shower Niche as scanned from my kit.
Above is the train wreck of advice
Step one: Cut away area for niche. Notice how no extra blocking is specified above or below the niche. That must be to hard for the tile installer - this person would have to have a wood saw and some wood. Then of course those pesky screws...
Step two: This is where it gets tricky. Do not screw the niche to the wall - rather use the washer to hold it there. Notice the instructions on placing the screw between the backer board and niche. Then just do the corners. If you are confused by the printed instructions like me you will have noticed that the instructions show an incorrect spacing of screws. The niche is asking for 12" on center those look more like 7 1/8" - I guess if the space is greater than 12" you need to break this rule....
Step three: Add the Kerdi Band or Kerdi to complete the install. Now here is where the issue is. Water collecting below the niche will have to travel over that outside seam and in my opinion start to leak.
Pretty low end. Not sure anyone could charge more for such a piece of shit and get away with it. Really - paper covered foam that is water resistant and sold as waterproof.... OMG
Step four: It gets better! - if a slope is required for the shelf why not the niche itself? OMG I love that bit. So funny. Does water pool on the niche bottom? GASP And what about sealing the cardboard from getting wet if the shelf is used? Such crappy advice. But listen to Jim people. He has taken 2 workshops on Kerdi not 1 like me. He knows that the niche is perfect because it's Orange in colour.... lol
What a shit show of info - Clearly the number one crappiest shower accessory sold today. And now I own two - I guess that jokes on me. But wait for them. I will transform these shells - these prototypes into a LED masterpiece. RGB colour. Chromotheraphy. Waterproof - not vapour proof and I will show a 30 day flood test not 4 not 5. Hell I'll leave it till it has no water left. This is going to be educational and humorous all in one.
