Hammering...please help!

There is a really bad hammering in the hot water faucet to the bathtub. Also transfers to the shower head. Hammering stops if we lower the water flow. I made an assumption (after doing some research) that it might be due to an old water heater. Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? Please help!

Sounds like a loose washer. Take the stem out causing the hammering and check the seat washer.

This most likely will fix the problem

How do I pull the stem apart? With a stem wrench? Is that something I can pick up at Home Depot?

You don't pull the stem apart from the front, you remove the stem.

The hardware store will sell tubular socket wrenches.

To replace parts in the
Price Phister faucet,

Make sure the water is off at the main shutoff.

1. Remove handles with a faucet puller. Remove trim.

2. Remove faucet stems with a socket wrench.

3. Remove seats with a seat wrench.

4. Replace seats with pipe sealant on the threads.

5. Install new valve stems.

6. Replace trim and handles.
