Sound like maybe whomever did the drain plumbing "forgot" to install a P trap.

I just bought a condo on the top floor(3 floors). The building was built in 1997. I turned my bath into a walk in shower. Had it re-tiled by professionals. I noticed when they were done the work that they had put something to clog the shower drain. After removing it I noticed a bad odour. When I place my hand above the drain I feel warm damp air coming up. Can this be solved?
thanks in advance for the advice.

Have you used it yet? Maybe just pour a glass or two of water down the drain...
