Replacement Shallow Well Pump

Hello:

We just purchased property however someone removed the existing shallow well pump the piping that goes into the well.

I purchased a 1HP shallow well pump from Harbor Freight and would like to know about the pipe that goes down into the well. The pump inlet and outlet pipe size is 1". One illustration shows a larger pipe going down into the well (with a foot valve) connecting to the 1" inlet pipe. Looks like a 2 or 3" pipe. My question is, am I able to continue the 1" down the well or should it be larger.

Usually there is 1 1/4" on the suction and 1" on the discharge.
