Acrylic shower Base ( cold 36x60

Hi Folks...

As I'm preparing for a new shower install in the basement I decided
to bring the acrylic base from the garage to see approximately where
the drain would end-up etc etc etc....

It was standing up right in the cardboard in the garage and
when I put it on the floor I noticed it was curved a bit on both axes,
the middle being the most protruded on the 4 sides.

I'm keeping it inside for the night to see if it will straighten-up..

Any comments???? is this normal???

Well............it's made in a mold and then pulled off. Nothing is perfect in construction. That's why they make shims.
Sometimes it's good enough, and sometimes not.
Most tubs, if you are looking at the line that meets the floor, those bow a bit too.

Thx Terry....Do you think that temperature can have an effect on it????

I would need a picture. I know that black ABS pipe left in the sun will curve when one side is warmer than the other.

I ended-up leaving the base sit in one of the bedroom that has floating floor that is
pretty much levelled and with a bag(40lbs) of wood pellet in each corner for a day.
After removing the bags and leaving it alone for a day, the sag is very small now
and with the weight of the shower door sitting on it I'll be fine...

Or you can scratch the back side of the shower pan with a razor blade a million times. Use a slurry coat of something sticky like Laticrete 254, Ardex X77, Mapei Grani Rapid, Custom Mega Lite and then drop it on a mortar mix base that went down over the same slurry coat. Tap it into perfect placement. Weight it and know for sure it is rock solid.

Any pre-made base we see installed with out this added work just feels weak under foot.

Does the mortar mix base actually stick/glue to the back side?????

WHen using the materials listed (modified thinsets), yes, it will stick...it would be like setting the thing like a big tile. You only get one chance to get it right, and when it comes time to replace it, you might have to replace the subflooring.

UPDATE UPDATE......

2 days later now and I noticed that the sag is not only on the bottom
of the base but more evident on the top part.

I've send a picture to the store owner and he has agreed to exchange.
I Have join the picture, not the best photographer the bottom of the base
is against the door...
