I want to replace a Moen pushbutton diverter model # 1198. It's recessed, and I'm thinking of using a socket wrench with a deep socket to remove the old one. Do you think a socket wrench will do the job, and can you tell me what size socket I will need? Thanks.

I just purchased the moen 1198. It measures 1 inch, not 3/4". You need a deep socket at least 3 & 1/4 inches long. This large socket is probably going to take a 1/2 inch socket wrench, or 1/2" adapter down to your 3/8" socket wrench. There are probably other tools, but I'm looking to buy the 1" x 3 1/4" socket due to recessed valve's lack of working space. Just be extra careful not to twist the valve connections if it is stubborn.
