No, plumbing ain't rocket science. Unlike rocket science, plumbing requires a license!
UV rays are "line of sight" so they do not affect pipes which are in "indirect sunlight".

I did a little research and it seems like UV rays can be reflected - even off of the concrete porch floor. However, not sure how much would actually be reflected - especially up 9 feet high?
They are so "weak" that a single layer of latex paint will protect the pipe from them so how much effect would they have if they were reflected off a rough surface like concrete?
