We have been remodeling our bathroom. We have replaced the floor and are ready to reinstall our toilet. We were advised today the we should not reinstall a toilet that has been sitting for 7 weeks because it may have "rotted" and will probably be a problem in the future. Can a toilet "rot"? This doesn't sound right to me.

Thank you very much for any assistance and Happy New Year!

Bad advice.........You may want to replace the guts before re-setting.

Never heard of such a thing. A toilet that was old and sits can have the rubber seals dry out and cause problems but 7 weeks shouldn't cause a problem. Like plumber1 said replace the flapper and fill valve now and you should be trouble free for a few years.
