    Default CSV valve question/soutions

I installed a new CSV valve on my well. The valve seems to be regulating correctly but my problem has now is that I have two stop/drains on the main line. The stop/drain closest to the well will now sometimes not work even though there is water going through the line and the other one works fine. This seems to be a vacuum problem but, I don't know why and what is the solution.

    thanks

I don't understand the "stop/drains". What are they for? What do you mean by "sometimes not work even though the water is going through the line"?

We call them stop/drains (water hydrant), the type that you lift handle up and water comes out. These two hydrants are on the main water line from the well to the house. Sometimes the hydrant that is closest to the well , when turned on will not produce any water, but the other hydrant that is on the same line works fine. I don't believe it is a hydrant problem as it is working fine most of the time and there does not seem to be anything wrong with it. I think it is a vacuum problem in the line but, I don't know what would cause it with the addition of the new CSV valve?

Hydrant I understand. CSV needs to be prior to all hydrants.

Yep, there's the problem! There should be nothing but the CSV between the pump and the tank!

The CSV is prior to hydrants, right at the pressure tank. This is a random problem that I can't explain as it was not happening before I installed the CSV? thanks

Prior to hydrants means installed at the well, not at the tank. The reason it works some of the time is that the hydrants have pressure when the pump is running. When the pump is off, the water leaks back through the CSV at only 1 GPM. So the hydrants have only a trickle until the pump comes on.

    Valveman thanks for your replies,

what is not making sense to me is that only one of the hydrants does this not both. When there is no water coming out I have checked the pressure at the tank and have good pressure. I also can hear what sounds like water running through the line. there is a shut off valve after the CSV valve and when I close that valve then re-open it the hydrant will start to work?

Your right it doesn’t make sense. Hydrants are not magical, they are just like any faucet. Open the faucet and water comes out. It is important to know where those hydrants are teed into the water line, and if there are any check valves in the system.

    Thanks

I'm not sure how its teed and the only check valvle that I know of would be at the well pump. It has never done this before until I installed the CSV valve which is installed above ground before the pressure switch.

    thanks again

Then the hydrant(s) must be teed in the line before the CSV. Can you move the CSV out to the well head?

It is possible that it is teed before CSV. If that were the case what would cause the problem I'm seeing?
    thanks

"The reason it works some of the time is that the hydrants only have pressure when the pump is running. When the pump is off, the water has to leak back from the tank through the CSV at only 1 GPM. So the hydrants have only a trickle at best until the pump comes back on."
