Iron out question

Thanks to some excellent help found on this forum we are now able to once again enjoy soft water. I have come to the conclusion as many of you suggested that my softener never really was set up correctly for my new well when we switched over. I am now operating with new resin and the settings suggested by some memebers here and everything seems to be in order. My question is with an iron content of 2.5 ppm would it be advisable to add Iron Out to my brine tank periodically, and if so at what interval and how much? Is it o.k. to just sprinkle some on the salt as it is added to the brine tank as the manufacturer suggests? Thanks again for all of your help, Jim

I think I a;ready answered the question in your other thread here but... IO does no good until it is dissolved in the brine and the brine is sucked into the resin bed. And sprinkled in the salt, you won't like the smell or taste in your mouth if you breath through your mouth when you open the salt tank. And if you can smell it, isn't the IO weakening?

Yep, you did and in great detail at that. I don't like sprinkling either for the same reasons. It stinks and it gets diluted. I very much prefer Mortons Resin Saver if only because it offers continuous protection and you can set it and forget it so to speak. That said, I don't like removing any iron with a softener but if you must.............

Thanks, any information on better ways to remove 2.5 ppm iron.
