Put soap on it and then "roll" it into the groove using your finger. There are several "grooves" so you have to make sure you are using the correct one. Pulling it side to side while stretching it also helps sometimes.

I am trying to replace the flapper on my San Raphael Toilet, and am having difficulties getting the back bar to snap into place on the back of the flush valve. Is it supposed to be VERY DIFFICULT, or am I doing something wrong? I need to mention that the toilet is under a banjo counter, so it is not super easy to get to.
