As the summer approaches we realize how much we need air conditioning because it's the only thing that can make the hot weather bearable. Air conditioning can be very useful in an office building where there are a lot more people than there would be in a house and there are a lot of machines generating heat as well. A hot and stuffy office can make employers irritable and less likely to work so it is important to have a proper air conditioning system installed.

Another advantage of a built in air conditioning system is the fact that it’s up on the wall and out of the way. Portable systems usually sit on the floor or on a desk and therefore take up a lot of space and can cause obstructions. But you should make sure that the unit you are going to use is installed professionally and guarantees that you are going to get a good quality machine.

But what should you do if you need air conditioning repair on a hot day? Then one of the reasons might be because an electrical or mechanical problem on the HVAC systems: refrigerant leaks, dirty condenser coil or unit, dirty evaporator or cooling coil, or burned out (or hard-starting) compressor motors. If your air conditioning or heat pump system has completely lost cooling capacity or if it plain won't start then you might have a problem with the fan or the fan motor in both the compressor/condenser unit and in the air handler/blower fan unit.

Also, if you need air conditioning repair remember that most refrigeration problems, in air conditioners, refrigerators, or freezers, are electrical, not mechanical. So before replacing components that are more expensive it's better if you check out switches and controls, because 80% of problems on these systems are electrical in nature.

But before you call an air conditioning repair company you can carefully check a few simple things such as:
1. Check the power. Make sure everything is plugged in.
2. You can start by checking the settings on the air conditioner. Make sure that everything it turned on and to cool.
3. You can check out the controls. If nothing happens and you air conditioner still does nothing at all, you may need a new control panel.
4. If your air conditioner is working, but just not full strength or no cold air is coming out, check the blower. Sometimes the blower can get plugged with dirt and block the flow of the air. Cleaning the duct may solve the problem.
5. You can also check your filters. If they are dirty they may stop the airflow.

If nothing works, then it's probably time to call a specialist in air conditioning repair and then you can enjoy the cool air again.

Nice post... I guess you should have been the one responding to my question... I got mostly spam!

Maybe it was the way you posted ?

When Getting my AC ready for the upcoming midwest summer, what type of suggestions do you have before a call out a professional?

You got what you asked for.

I hate when that happens...

Not sure if I would call a Plumper to fix my air tho. At least there is some answers on this tingeyplumbing post.

Change out the batteries in the thermostat with brand new ones if a unit is acting strange (in heating, cooling, or fan mode.) This should probably be the first item on the check list.

Good Point.

Change the batteries in your Smoke detectors and other warning devices as well as the batteries on your Remote controls.

And the batteries in your cordless phone, just in case you need to call a service man.

OK Don, that makes it over 30 batteries for me. I'm right on it. Smoke detectors, always, every 6
months.

You should have thought about that before you bought all them Gwiz - Bangup gadgets.

I use rechargeable when I can.

I don't even want to think what it would cost for me to replace the all.

My detectors beep so they must be working.

I have 10 TV remotes that use AA and AAAs, 2 each. Smoke detectors are important Don; don't leave weak batteries in them. You don't want to wake up dead one morning.

Actually, I buy all my Alkalines (Duracells) at Costco. A 24 pack of AAs or AAAs is very inexpensive ther; I think they're only about 10 bucks for a 24 pack of each at the club. Online they only carry the small retail packs which ARE costly. I have several Nickel metal hydride setups with AAA and AA with chargers that I bought at the clubs. I use the rechargeables mostly in my outdoor solar lighting. For my useage, I find that the Duracells give me the best bang for the buck. On my old Canon A70 Camera, I use the rechargeable AAs, as that sucker eats up 4 alkalines in a short time. Just bought a Nikon S9300 that has the Lithium Ion battery. Nice 18X optical zoom, with a really nice wide angle zoomed out. I like the new camera. Takes great, sharp pictures. 16 Megapixels, but more important, has very good optics.

If your smoke alarms are a/c powered, and you don't have regular power outages, use lithium batteries in them for your backup, and they may last the life of the detector (it is highly recommended to just arbitrarily replace all smoke detectors every 10-years, regardless of whether the test button works).
