Hello
I'm in Calgary Alberta. I need to replace my sewer from the house out to the City service - around 8' deep. Should I use 4" ABS-DWV Schedule 40 Cell Core pipe? Or should I be using 4" PVC Solid Wall DR 35? Or something else?
Thanks

What do they use in your area for new construction? Cast iron or solid core PVC is common here.
It depends on what is "used" in your area. Here, it would be almost exclusively ABS pipe and fittings. Other areas use PVC, and still others may have a 50/50 mix depending on the plumber's preference.
Licensed residential and commercial plumber
we use DR35 PVC sewer pipe for the main
Why do we Canadians use PVC Sch 35 vs ABS Sch 40 pipe. Is it cost ? Material flexibilty / frost or is it just better ?
Willie, I don't know that it is a "Canadian thing" at all. The choice of materials will vary from place to place here in the States too. Some areas don't stock ABS at all, other places use ABS 100%. Go figure.
