Was at our storage facility --- commerical space
For the sprinkler system, they ran black pipe.
What I found interesting - it looks like some sort of compression fitting used on all the ends of them to join them.
Similar compression style fitting that were 90 degree units.

Anyone care to share the link or name so I can google this.
Was just curious.

I used to install Fire Protection years ago. We used a Victaulic system for joining the pipes.

A 45 fitting

We also had a way of putting grooves in steel pipe that the fittings used.

yeap, those are it. Grooves and all.

I was thinking about the propress and tooling.....and was wondering why something similar like *above* did not exist for water feed systems..
Thickness of walls for the groove

They are also used for water supply inside large buildings, done mainly with copper pipe. The copper can be grooved too. It's like a roller that puts a bend in the copper for the fittings to set in.

NM. For the intended application, I suppose a Propress is more superior when a line is hanging in the middle of the ceiling...all you do is cut, slip fittings and *compress* away without needing something to get that groove on.

Pretty interesting stuff regardless for me atleast
