Here is a link to a bucket that will go in a 4 inch well. The bucket has a special leak-proof valve on the bottom of the bucket that opens to fill the bucket from the bottom. The valve closes automatically when the bucket is drawn up. I have one made smaller, about an inch and a half in diameter and made of plastic. It was used to take water samples from small diameter test wells.
