Just replaced pump in well--what is procedure for running/waiting for it to settle?

We just replaced the pump in our well. The water is brown, should we run it or wait? What is the most efficient way to get it to clear?

It depends on the well and the formation. Sometimes you run it hard continuously until it runs clear. Other times you run it hard for short periods and then let the well recover.
