New small bathroom. We are trying to leave room for shower door to swing past front of the toilet, and so keep space behind tank to a minimum (every inch helps). Rough in is at 13 inches, apparently due to floor joists. Can the Toto 14" unifit adapter be shortened to 13" by any chance? Love the Toto toilets-- Is there any combination of toilet and connectors that could result in toilet extending about 28" from wall?

No, you can't alter the Unifit adapters. You will need a 12" toilet. You can peruse the space specs on Terry's site linked from the top of this page. Exact space requirements vary from model to model. In other words, a 12" toilet does not mean it will use exactly 12" from the wall to the center of the flange. They frequently will need less than the listed size, but never more. I think you can find several options that will work for you.

The round front Drake would be 28" to the end of the bowl on a 13" rough.
The horn is 2-58" and the drain is 3"
We sometimes pull the bolts close to the wall and set the bowl farther back in the drain. If the flange is notched, we can use a repair ring over it to re-position the bolts.
