Good morning everyone....

I have a situation with a Greenway(Sanitizer) water softener that contains CR100 and KDF-85.
I installed the unit last May(10 months ago) and ran Ok for 2 months after which a
rotten/sulfur smell showed-up for which I was prescribed to add some KDF-85.

It ran ok till this morning(8 months) when the smell is coming back.......

I have a CSV installed with a small pressure tank, the setting (30 grains) on softener shows that I should
go for 733 Gals before regeneration but I run it once a week when I have used approximately 400 Gals.

Here's the situation...I open a tap and no smell, after a minute or two the smell shows-up and if I let it
run for another 2 minutes the smell goes away again.
I have ran that scenario a few time and same result????

I'm trying to foresee a possible problem before it gets worst...Thx

Brine refill time?

Iron 3 PPM
Hardness 9
Backwash 12
Brine draw/ rince time 90
Rapid Rinse 4
Brine refill 9:53

I took these number from the specs book, I'm not sure
if I can see these on the display, not seeing it in the documentation.
It seems like a preset depending onf the model #...???
Thx

What size tank is the unit?
10x44 or 10x54?
backwash time for the 10x54 is 16 minutes
Brine draw is correct
Rapid rinse should be 1
Brine refill is most likely correct for the amount of salt to be used next.
Is this the Clack valve that Water Right is using?
You are going to need to program it for your water, other wise the unit is going to continue the failure that it is doing.

Tank is 10x54 and it is a Clack valve(Water Right).

Nothing like reading a bit more, found out the parameter from the starting procedure.

Fill 9:53
softening 240
back wash 12
Brine Draw 90
Rinse 4

So I gather that the back wash is not long enough????

Regards

One of the things is yes the backwash needs to go to 16 minutes.
Rapid rinse needs to be cut to 1 minute.

What do you mean by softening 240?

The water goes in the salt container for 240 minutes (4 hrs) prior to Regen.
So basically water is put in the salt container at 22:00 and the Regen starts at 02:00AM.

No water in container between Regens

Ok, now I under stand that your system first fills the salt tank, waits and then starts the regen.

From say Monday morning regen and the resetting of the meter count, how many days til the smell starts to came back?

What is the default day setting for?

When I noticed the smell yesterday, I made it do a Regen last night and the smell was still there this morning
after a fresh regen..

Default setting is 7 days, in my case a fresh Regen shows 733 gallons to go
and I'm usually at the 500 gallons mark for 7 days...

Is the water level up in the salt tank?
This unit has the chlorine generator?
Has there been a yellow light or a beeping ?
Default really should be 4 days with the CR100

Water is up in tank
Yes it has the chlorine generator
No light or beeping
As for the 4 days, it would mean a Regen for abt 300 gallons?????? when it should be good for 700.
Is it too late to put it at 4 days??, that will be a lot of salt/month.

I appreciate your help....

If the water is up or there is still water in the salt tank when there really should not be any water, then the injector is plugging up.
The gallons would still be there, and it might trip in cleaning after the 700 gallons, but it would clean every 4 days if the gallons are not used.
Part of the challenge is that the Zeolite is going to many days between cleaning.
You could try 5 days.. and see how that works.
But look into the injector for the clack unit as there should only be about 1" of water in the bottom of the salt tank with the system putting water in first then waiting and then starting the rest of the cycle.
Could also be that the nuts at either end of the brine line are not tight enough and letting some air in and not pulling the brine out like it should.
Was just working on a 2850 with a 13x54 tank and that was the challenge it was having, the seal at a few points on the brine line where not fully tight.

There is no water still in the tank, I thought you were asking if the water was
going up in the tank when filling,,,,so yes water goes IN and OUT as it should, and
about an inch at bottom.

I think I will put it at 5 days, the guy at Greenway had it setup at 4 when I received the softener
but I thought it was a waste to do it every 4 days when not that much water has been used...

Thx

CR100 does on have that much capacity, it is more for the correction of the ph.
If you use 6.1lbs of salt that will give a capacity of 18,400grain removal.. but that is really not where the CR100 1.5 cubic foot should be run at to get the best out of the media.
What is the ph of your water?

Should have gone with calcite as the ph correction and then the CR200...
In about 4 years you are going to if not sooner have to rebed the CR100 as it will be going by by ....
You are using straight extra course?

Rock salt.

In days gone by Morton used 3 colors, yellow, green and blue.
It was the Blue that was used for systems like yours.
Extra course, rock salt.

What salt are you using?

If there is an additive in the salt then the system will not work.
Check to see if there is any additive in that salt.
It should be just salt and NOTHING ELSE.
