Gan a switch for overhead lighting be added to a GFI protected circuit without popping the GFI everytime you throw the switch?

Sure. I have a GFI outlet out on my back patio, and it supplies power from its "load" connections -- "line" is for power in and "load" is for power out -- to the yard-light switch mounted in a box just above it.
