Ok. I bought the house a little over a year ago, and was told the well was less than 5 years old, put in by the previous owner. Everything has worked fine until recently. we used to be able to run our washer, dishwasher, take showers and use the toilet all at the same time with no noticeable problems with our supply. About a month ago our water began pulsing/surging and the water pressure would not stay up, so we could only do one thing at a time. For example, if the washing machine was running, we would not be able to use anything else. The faucet would only trickle if turned on. Same thing for any other activity that drew on our water supply(I.E. our well). I have looked at the well head and noted that there was a hissing/spraying sound coming from down inside the well. I had not noticed this sound before we started having problems. I also noted that the pump was cycling on and off every ten to fifteen seconds. I have not been able to get anyone to come look at my system due to the holidays and being out a lot, and since I had water I was not overly concerned. I had been shutting off the well when I did not need it so that it would not run constantly. The other day when I turned it back on, nothing happened. So now I have no water and am still having problems with getting someone out here as everyone is either booked solid, doesn't know how to help, or just plain doesn't want to. I want to do the work myself, but have run into a problem. I believe I have a pitless adapter, and am confident if I can access it that I can pull the pump and fix/replace it and any bad piping in the process, but I cannot get past my wellhead, or rather, I cannot get past the plug that is about 15" down inside my well head. Here are some pictures of what I have. One is of my well head with the cap off, the next is a picture inside the head showing the plug that is in the way, the other two are the pressure switch.
The plug appears to me to be one of those that is tightened so that a rubber gasket presses against the sides of the pipe. I've done a bit of looking on the forums and others have had a set screw or a bolt head. Mine has neither. There is a cavity on the center, a bit more than an inch in diameter and maybe an inch in depth. feels like it has threading on the inside. I have tried a 1" threaded pipe, but it was too small. So any ideas what kind of plug that is and how do I get it out? Should I get some slightly larger threaded pipe and try that? Any thoughts, advice, ideas would be greatly appreciated!
