CFL Bulbs that really last for 5 Years

where are you buying LED lights so cheaply? $25? where? do tell I see one at big orange that i kind of like, since i am remodeling. i thought they were more like 50 or 60 each and came with trim. someone mentioned CREE, i think those are the same lights. they fit in a 5" or 6" can.

I normally buy my electrical stuff in bulk. Maybe my price was off a little.

Orange box has them for $37 right now from Commercial Electric. You could get a few bucks off with a 10% coupon off that auction site, and buying a gift card at 7% off from plastic jungle dot com. I do this a lot for my Orange and Blue purchases. Works out to a total of about 16% off, so the cans would be about $31 before tax.

If you're doing the can light conversions, you don't need permits/electricians. Its just changing a light bulb. The ones I'm thinking of screw into a standard base and just replace the bulb and the trim on the can light housing, no electrical requirements.

Back to $250, seem more reasonable?

Although, I think if some people had their way about things, this would be a permit operation requiring union electricians and all that jazz... <sigh>

on HD's web site, the Model ECO-575L sells for $39.99, but at my local HD's, they are selloing for $24.99. They come with trim, which is integral with the bulb.

Sounds like most people pay to much for the bulbs.

I buy my bulbs in a 100 pack and get a better deal.

But I think I will bogard my stash...

For what it’s worth, China is the only country on this planet that allows the manufacture of CFLs so no matter what the brand name it was made in China.

Incandescent bulbs waste about 95% of their energy to heat or a 100 watt bulb will produce 5 watts of light and 95 watts of heat. It is this wasted heat energy that Green America is hoping to stop with the other types of lighting.

Isnt that a dumb and dumber proposition? Lets allow the Chinese child workers to poison themselves in China, so that those same poisons that would be properly handled by OSHA in American factories, arrive in the US to be broken and the chemicals dispersed in our homes anyway. SMART.

Our utility subsidizes CFL's to about 4 for $1.29! But mostly grocery stores only take them and hide them in a obscure aisle behind their 4 for 6$ bulbs. I have a long track and had three quartz halogens and 6 CFL's in it. the quartz guys have been dead for a year now.

No more 100 watt bulbs after Jan 1. If you want a great one, go to Graingers and buy 'railroad' signal lamps. Go forever. My grandparents had an old Edison 60 watt bulb high up in their hallway. They said it was installed in 1918, and was running still in 1957. Wish I had saved it.

Look what happened to that SOLAR-bama fiasco. Turned out they couldn't make the panels at price to compete with chinese imports'

Actually they had a design that was unproven, and the world price of silicon tanked recently, like will happen to LED's soon due to overcapacity.

This Solar mega plant in San Luis Obispo, largest on earth being built is using US components and NOT taking a penny from our pockets. There is some hope.

There is still wasted heat. Unless it is wintertime.
