Default shutting down my oil burner

I would like to know if and how I can shut down my oil burner for the winter months while away. If not what can I do to help on my oil bills while away. Last year I turned my furnace down to 46 however the electric went out and my pipes froze before my neighbor could contact me. I really would like to shut it down and not have to depend on somebody to watch my house while away for 3 months. Any suggestions?????

Anti freeze the boiler and drain the water down
No, plumbing ain't rocket science. Unlike rocket science, plumbing requires a license!
