Pop-up style bathtub convert to a trip lever drain

Can you convert a pop up style bathtub drain (with a metal coil) to a trip lever drain? The bathtub is about 40-50 years old. Thanks

Unlikely that the Tee is machined to accept the barrel of a trip lever.

Not likely, since the tee is probably not machined for the stopper's plug, and the drain in the bottom of the tub would not have anything to stop large items from entering the drain if the stopper were removed. What is the reason for your inquiry?
