A recurring problem is that people say everyone in Washington is (insert negative here).

Ian, what can be done? Seriously. There ARE countries, where things work. Bureaucracies function. The political system "works" well.

I think that for as long as people generalize about Politics and Government the way they do now, nothing will improve. Ian, what can be done? Do you have any idea how to break the pattern?

The big problem in America has always been political campaign contributions. Period.

Ban them. And have taxpayers pay with fixed amounts per party/Presidential candidate.

And then the guy with the best policies, rather than the biggest wallet, gets to the top.

We see that those big bureaucracies are working our really well in Greece, Italy, Spain, etc! How about jolly old England? Home boys rioting in the streets.

Well, at least no one got shot.

A good Government is a big Government.

It might create a few jobs here that are so desperately needed.

Small business certainly isn't pulling up the slack.

That's a cultural difference, right there.

Some Europeans would rather see someone employed, regardless of the source. Some Americans would rather see people jobless than have them hired by Government.

This country needs to come together all the time, not just in times of crisis.

Here in the USA we are not too fond of having the government do most of the employing. Not really a sustainable model as the European crisis can attest.

I guess you could apply for a Post Office Job. ;)

The U.S. Postal Service is one of the largest employers of any government institution in the United States. With over 700,000 workers at any given time, the post office also has a rather large turnover of employees, with almost 40,000 new ones being hired each year to replace those who retire or move on to other positions.

The Federal isn't doing too well Ian. One might have a better job at landing a job with a small business.
