Default Bathroom sink, leaking at the pop-up drain connector.

I replaced an old, circa 1982 brass faucet, nice and still working fine but showing corrosion.

I happened to have an old (Made in Taiwan, so probably 1980's) faucet. The faucet installed nicely.

I installed the drain assembly and where the pop-up "ball and socket" assembly is, I get some leakage when the sink is full and I drain it. The ball just fits in the plastic drainpipe assembly, and has a plastic hand tighten nut, there are no rubber gaskets (unless there was an outer one, and it is missing).

I'm afraid to tighten it any tighter.

Any suggestions, or remove, and trash the assembly and go buy a good one?

    Thanks

Most of them also have a washer in there to help seal the assembly. The tighter you fasten it, the harder it will be to open/close the drain. Double-check that there isn't a washer in there and they just assembled it incorrectly.
