I prefer http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/. It has consistently been able to handle higher throughput than the other option. There are simply times when too many people are using the other one, so the stats that you can get from it can be in competition from other users.
Those pointy clicky flashy GUI sites are OK to use for bragging links. For real testing, I like using NDT servers.

IP address are easy to get, so it really don't matter much.
My connection is so slow, I have time to get another cup of coffee.

Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody can share with me any other link than speedtest.net. It’s not working on my system. It starts testing and gets stuck in between. It’s almost like my system is on a hang.
