First, what size circuit breaker does the dryer require? That, along with the length, will determine what size wire gauge is required. 10g may be too small.

Hello,
I am considering moving my laundry from the basement to the living level. (Gotta keep the wife happy).
I have two questions
1) How far is too far to run 10/3 cable? It looks like I will need about 70' to get from the box to the new dryer point.
2) If the distance is not too far, do I have to drill every floor joist or can I nail up so 1x4 and surface mount the cable?
Thank you,
Fred

nail the 1 by then install the 10/3 on top (or bottom depneding on you outlook)
Use the #10 copper and a 30 amp breaker and you should be fine.
