I searched but didn't find what I'm looking for. My current sump pump is a 1/3 HP Century pedestal and looks to be very old. With snow melting and some recent rain the pump is running more often. I've only been in this house 6 months and don't have much experience with sump pumps. The pump comes on when the 4" drain tile is about 2/3 full, the pump runs for about 3 or 4 minutes until water level in the sump is about 1" below drain tile. About 45 minutes later it cycles again. I'm wondering if the 3 to 4 minute (just and estimate, I should measure) run time is too long, the body of the pump feels warm but not hot to the touch. I'm wondering if I'm stressing the old motor too much. Is there an optimum run time so the motor doesn't overheat? I'm wondering if I need to adjust to shorter run times but more cycles. I am researching sump pumps to find a quality model to buy as a replacement to have on hand in case the old one fails.
