Elizabeth,

Without lab test result for your specific water, it would be near impossible to identify the specific cause of your spotting issue and to suggest an appropriate solution.

With regard to treatment methods to eliminate your issue, technology hasn't changed drastically since this thread was started so your options likely remain the same as has been mentioned earlier such as a whole home Reverse Osmosis system.

Silica can cause scaling and glass etching. Reduction of both colloidal and reactive silica in residential applications are mostly limited to whole house reverse osmosis. RO membranes reject 80% of reactive silica and 99.8% of colloidal silica. To avoid silica fouling on ro membranes, use an antiscalant dosing system. You guys will also need holding tanks that at least match your daily water use, repressurization pumps, carbon and calcite backwashing tanks and uv disinfection systems. Make sure to compensate for water temperature and match 3 x the capacity of the storage tank when selecting the ro system.

Anyone who has experience with strong base anion (OH) desilicization that can apply to ForkWheelDrive and mrmichaeljmoore please share your thoughts.
