I caught an informercial for this "new" type of water softener, which claims to treat hard water through a replaceable filter using citric acid.

I literally cant wait to see these in my neck of the woods most well water here is over 60 gpg and municipal water is over 35 gpg. For the cost of this you could buy gallons upon gallons of citric acid and probably the metering equipment.

Hi ! Have you heard of anyone trying this citric acid system? Cannot afford $2000 in traditional salt/softening and not so sure I want this kind after looking into it and getting some feedback...but after living north of the city for 1 1/2 yrs now+dealing with what local water is doing to my hair, skin and dishwasher, I would like to find a system for my tiny (1200s.f.) 100 yr. old house.......has anyone used this product yet? Saw it for 1st time on infomercial....thnx! LaVierge

Yes since the last post I have pulled several of these things out of people's houses because they don't work. You can find a reasonable softener for around 1100 to 1500 dollars and do it right the first time.

Useless pile of junk. There's a reason why ION exchange softeners have been around for so long. It's because they work.

Just a warning. Anyone considering buying a Nuvo filter needs to know that the company refuses to sell parts to buyers of used filters. Therefore, the Nuvo has no resale value. Jake and Yynon of the company's customer service department explained that they have no idea whether the used filter was stolen or something like that, so the never sell parts to buyers of used units. What a policy! I'm stuck with a unit I paid $540 for, and can't get the small part needed to make it work...
