    Default Breaker Box Cover

Is it against code in WV to paint the breaker box cover any other color than what it is such as the same color as the room that its in? Thanks

We can wait for speedeypetey's official answer...but I think that is OK. I have certainly seen a bunch of them painted.

And why wouldn't it be? The color has nothing to do with the safety of the panel, except maybe to make it a little harder to find it. The only time I have seen any which were NOT painted were when they were in unfinished basements.

    It differs by State.

Some do not let you paint it so firemen can see it.

Others do not let you paint any kind of electrical or alarm systems or fire/smoke detectors.

    So check local codes.

It's a shame because I would like my electrical panel to match the colour of....

    ....my bathroom!!!

Here, the houses MUST have a disconnect at the meter, and THAT is where the firemen would terminate the power if they wanted to do so, NOT inside a burning building. ANd the building woudl be so full of smoke that they could not tell what color the panel was. Why would anyone even consider painting the inside of the panel unless they intended to leave the door open all the time. Besides, the inside is where the breaker schedule is usually posted.

Let's all just agree, for now, that you cannot paint the inside of the panel nor should the panel cover be painted so it is stuck to the wall.
