Bathroom Lights Kaputt

Hello all,

Thank you in advance for your help! Here's what I got:

Daughter in bathroom taking shower and bathroom lights go out. Three switch bathroom with each controlling lights, heater and exhaust. All three fail to work.

Breaker box controls hallway lights and bathroom lights. Hallway light works.

Outlets in bathroom work just fine.

Using a current meter, no power to any of the three switches.

House is 3 years old.

Using mini-florescent lights that sporadically burn out every other month.

Can anyone help? Oh yeah, I'm electrician illiterate. Please be kind.

Some bathroom heaters require a separate circuit as they require more power than one lighting circuit can provide. Depending on how the home is wired the power might go from the light/fan/heater to the switches or vice versa. The wires will need to be traced to determine how it is wired. Somewhere there is an open circuit.

If you are electrician illiterate, you should find someone that is not to look at this for you.

From your description, and it may not be entirely accurate since you are electricity illiterate, it appears there is a broken or loose connection somewhere in the line feeding those switches and we cannot tell you WHERE that might be without being there to do some testing. You need an electrician, ideally one with a "toner" which he can connect to the bad switches and trace back to where the signal gets lost, which should be where the break is.

There is probably one "hot" in that 3-switch box, and somehow it's connection became loose. I would start there. But you need to be comfortabl working on electricity and have a volt/ohmeter. Might be time to call an electrician.
