Moen Valve won't stop dripping

I recently tiled the tub surround in the bathroom, and replaced the old Moen fixture. The valve itself seemed fine so I just purchased a kit to replace the old one.

Long story short... the water has been off in this bathroom for over a year. I have the new kit installed, and the water is on. The problem is there is always a constant drip regardless how much I push the knob back in.

How can I determine if the valve is bad? Is it possible to fix this drip?

If you have used the tub shower combination, it will take 35 minutes for the drip to stop.
If it's still dripping an hour later, "THEN" you have a bad cartridge.

Some of the after market repair kits are junk...Moen will send you one for free if you call them. You might need that. As noted, residual water in the shower arm can continue to drip for quite awhile, which doesn't indicate a bad cartridge.

Moen has been really great in the past in getting me parts I needed free of charge, so this time I just bought the new kit. I think it was only about $15, and it did the trick. The old one must have just been worn out, or maybe the o-rings were bad from being winterized for over a year? The house was a foreclosure, so maybe it dried out?

Anyway, problem solved! Thanks again!
