Default Tile surround vs. Shower Walls

Getting ready to remodel my bathroom, and was curious as to what the pros and cons of having a surround tiled vs. the drop in walls would be?

It depends on what the walls are made of. I have seen few, if any, "glue on plastic" surrounds which stay watertight, or even secured to the walls for any appreciable length of time. Tile, or professionally installed "cultured marble" or similar are about equal, with the marble getting a slight edge because it has fewer grout lines.

With tile, you have unlimited choices; colors, texture, size, pattern, shelves, niches, footrest, benches, etc. When you buy a pre-made surround, you get what you get. Check out www.johnbridge.com for help if you decide to tile things. There's more than a couple of 'right' ways to do it, but lots more 'wrong' ways. They can help you select a way that will last.
