Default Kinetico 60, what do I need to rebuild?

My wife and I just purchased a house with this system. From Day 1 we have had the "rotten egg" smell in the water, and it is considerably worse with the hot water. I called a Kinetico rep to get his opinion and he took samples from the external faucets and said there was no smell, and said we need to replace the Kinetico system for $3500, he also has a buddy that can install a new water heater for us. He mentioned the system is 15 years old and probably was not maintained properly. I here it regenerating occasionally, so I believe I only need to replace the resin.

I've read some forums above replacing the resin and wanted some advise on how to do it, where to get the resin, and what resin is needed?

    Thanks in advance.

Softening resin is not designed to remove sulfur smell. You will need to install a chlorinator or an oxidation/filtration media. If the Kinetico guy only wants to sell you new equipment, I would not use him. The resin may not need to be replaced at all. You would be better off by calling another company to check out the water.

Mialynette2003, thanks for the suggestion. Couple things I didn't mention, the home was sitting roughly 6 months with nobody living it before purchasing. Plus, the previous owner had removed the Anode from the water heater, which I've read can cause internal damage and allow bacteria to grow.

I'm thinking about replacing the water heater with new, and chlorine shock treatment of the well flushing it through all the water lines. Any thoughts on this? Should the Kinetico system be in bypass mode?
