First question - I may have to observe again.
Second question - I did check both they are clean and in decent shape. The injector bore is discolored compared to other bores.

Discolored should not be a challenge in pulling brine from the brine tank.
I know that I was having a challenge with an 8500 pulling brine that had the SE control, changed it to the older style and it would pull the brine.
The SE cam was not stopping where it needed to be to pull the brine and no matter how I changed the microswitches it would not work so I changed to the non SE and it worked great.
Please see attachment for diagram of my control.

Same books I have..
Could be that the unit is stopping to soon or to late with the switchs and cam to push the brine piston in at the right point for it to draw brine but it will draw brine for a second or two while it is passing that point.
Who was the manufacturer of this powerhead and who sells them? Thank you
Fleck was the manufacturer now known as Pentair.
Just about any dealer that deals has a supplier that has Fleck/Pentair parts like I do..
There are some on line that sell Fleck/Pentair parts... I have always seen this as 8500 or twinflo 100..
After looking at prices of parts, I'm thinking about replacing the whole system with a Fleck 9000 or Fleck 9100 Water Softener. Some on the online prices are pretty reasonable compared to the parts. Any thoughts on either of these two systems? Thanks
All you need is a new control valve, your tanks etc. can be reused and you can replace the resin if needed.
There is no advantage to the brass 9000.

I have this same 8500 econominder that I have inherited--with no manual. Does anybody know how I could get an instruction manual, or give me a walkthrough on how to program it?
www.fleckcontrols.com looking for TwinFlo 100e it replaced the 8500 mechanical due to many problems with mechanical indexing failures.
