I am new to this forum. I am a homeowner, not a professional. After 32 years in our home, we are going to replace an old 3.5 gal. toilet with a new 1.6 gal. because I want a black toilet in my powder room. I don't want to spend a lot and have narrowed down my choices to the American Standard Cadet 3 two piece round bowl (2829.128) or the Kohler Wellworth two piece round bowl (K-3576-7). The price for either is about $250 which includes shipping. Any thoughts from an expert?
My husband and I are pretty handy but we have never replaced a toilet before. We were told by friends who have done it that it is not that difficult. Does anyone know of a dealer of surplus plumbing supplies in the Philly, PA area that might have a black toilet at a good price?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Robin

Terry,
We installed the TOTO Drake and it works great. We followed your son's instructions and it went very smoothly. I have one question...the tank feels "wobbly". We tightened it as instructed (didn't want to overtighten and take a chance on cracking it). There is no water leaking but if I push on the tank lightly, it has some movement. Is that normal? Is there something else that we should have done to make it more stable?
Thanks,
Robin
This is a tough one to coach.
When bringing the tank into the cradle, you need to make sure it's dropping straight down.
If three points of contact can be made, it should be pretty secure.
You can't make four points of contact without something breaking.
Some movement if fine too.
