Your neighbors will not contribute to your well. They have no need or incentive to do so. If its artesian, there is water for several more families, and to give up your share in that would be shooting ones own foot. Your next well is just a crap shoot and could be a dry hole. If you really want to deprive yourself of this neighbors gift [and the benefit of shared maintenance] drill a well first and then think about going it alone.

If you have a recorded well share agreement, with good terms, there is not a reason to worry. If you have no agreement, and your neighbor is a nut with a poor well, then perhaps you have a reason to move ahead.

Hi, At present we are on a shared Artesian well (on neighbors land) with our neighbors and wanted to get a rough idea on how much it would be to have our own well drilled.......we already have the tank pressure switch etc.......

We was hoping that the neighbors would contribute to this as this would allow them to have the present well all to themselves........

A good recommendation to a company would be great also!

Many thanks

Hi I understand some of your points......surely it would be an advantage for both parties when it comes to selling your property to have your own well, also on sharing a well you are not in charge of your own finances, if there is a problem with the well that you maybe able to fix yourself if you was there (as is holiday home) then you have a choice of not paying for labor costs of $70 + hour........if you are not around you do not have a choice.......this works for both properties!

Also can be difficult to winterize sometimes in this situation when neighbor still needs the water supply.....

This was not a gift as you state but an agreement to share the well at an agreed sum of money, (in the late eighties).......not sure if this was when the well was built or an agreement to start sharing the existing well!

Not quite as straight forward as you come across, although I see validity in some of your points!

Thanks
