Okay, you all have been great help so far with our project. Next question is, whether or not we can jog our 4" stack, once it is above all the fixtures, outside. Since we are dealing with a timber frame with vaulted ceilings and we have large timber wall plates and a large hip beam in the general direction the vent would exit inside the house. Can't run the vent through our 2x6 wall due to structural reasons...The distance outside it would have to run is about 5' to the roof and then however far above that. We are going to build a box around the vent outside and insulate it if this is possible.

Another question...since the kitchen sink/dishwasher are the highest and last fixtures in the house, then don't need their own vent is that correct? The sink is about 3' from the 4" stack.

Thanks for all your help!

I'm certain you can do what you're proposing, but it seems a shame this important detail wasn't thought of when designing an expensive timber frame home. How will you make a pipe on the outside wall look good?

I agree....but we've never built a timber frame....it's one big learning experience! Hind sight is always 20/20....We will frame it on the outside and side it to match the rest of the house. It will just add dimension!

Or you could run a vent on the inside through a cabinet.

The kitchen sink will need a vent.

In Washington State, you can get by with four 2" vents if you have four toilets and 4" leaving the building.
Or two 2" vents and one 1.5" if you have three toilets and 3" leaving the building.

Sometimes in restaurants, when you look up, you will see lot's of pipes, conduit and heating ducts.

Sometimes, you make them design elements.
