Thought I would update everyone.
I don't know if I should have added this as a reply or a new thread? Feel free to say so

I tried flushing the fouled softener to no avail.
I decided to replace the resin with (sst-60) and replace the down pipe in the resin tank with a turbolator. This was not exactly recommended, but thought I might try it.
I was surprised that resin tank had no gravel bed in it, I know you don't use one with a turbolator, but thought you had to have a distribution bed otherwise.
There seemed to be a general consensus that I needed a bigger unit, but I will see how long this last.
It is working very well and I am extremely happy with the outcome.
If anyone decides to do something like this, I will say it is fairly easy. Just make sure the valve isn't bleeding hard water past the bed.
Anyone with further thoughts are appreciated.
