You don't HAVE to do anything. You only need two traps if that makes the installation easier. Otherwise you just put a cap on one of them to use as a cleanout.

I am not a plumber but am planning on installing my sink and garbage disposal this weekend. I bought a Waste King and everything else is new, any advice or warnings are welcome. My question is about the pipe coming out of the wall, it looks different than most i have seen and I am wondering how would you install in a situation like this? I am thinking I have to install two traps one for each side of the sink... Is this correct? Also the dishwasher is not near the sink. Thanks for your help, Jesse.

You were quite vague about where the dishwasher is. Usually the DW is located adjacent to the sink. The drain hose is either high looped or connected first to an air gap on top of the counter. In either case, it is then run to the sink drain and connected with a special fitting. If your DW is locate somewhere else, you need to determine how far it will pump the water. You would have to buy additional drain hose. We need more specific information to advise you any more.
Prob'ly oughta replace that there receptacle w/ a GFI...
