Everything I have ever read says that these burner boxes should be sealed 100%

Look at the pics here...I've been wondering why I have gotten a gas whiff when opening the front cover..have had the gas company in here and with their sniffer it reads 0.025 which they say is hardly even worth mentioning...when service tech was in here he was puzzled why the opening too but didn't offer any fixes. The burner box is assembled correctly however it has these small gaps....I cant raise the box any higher..

Can I seal these with some foil tape? If I do will it hurt anything ??

Even though I can smell gas a bit when I take off the cover? Doesn't seem to travel out side of furnace but still has me on edge a bit. I wonder why it is even there if supposed to be 100% sealed?
