    Default Flappers' Life

My Drake of four years has started having intermittent leaking under the flapper. No sign of sediment. Is there a rule of thumb life span to the flappers?

It very much depends on the water you have.

Do you use a chemical cleaner that goes in the tank? They will shorten the life span of flappers considerably. That's a subtle way of saying don't use chemicals in the tank.
