you just have to be careful when you grab the threads of that nipple with a pipe wrench or large cahnnel locks....
sometimes they come out easy, sometimes
they are in there tight.....
usually you will scar it up a little bit...
no big deal

This is my 1st post on this boad and I just wanted to introduce myself...
I've got well water and was planning on putting an Aluminum/Zinc anode in a new water heater before I install it. The new Bradfords have the anode attached to the hot water outlet.
I like the Bradford's but what I am wondering is... How do you remove the hot water outlet anode without damaging anything?
Any advice would be appreciated.
