So we have been without water since Thursday. We started with replacing the pressure switch and found out that did not work. The well is about 200 feet down, when pulling up the pump we found out the pipe was broken about 20 feet down. Then the wires slipped and fell into the well, the pump is still attached the PVC pipe, but it is 20 feet underground, how can this be pulled up? The water company wants almsot 500-1000 to come fix this. I know we can fix it if we can get the pump out any suggestions?

Magnet

You can also try attaching a big magnet that is activated by voltage. Drop the mag until it hits the pump, then applyt the voltage to activate it. That might work.

If the broken pipe is only 20' down and you can see it, take a joint of PVC pipe and tape on a ski rope with a hoop on the end. Work the hoop over the pipe, and pull it out with the ski rope. The wire can be a problem if it gets in a wad and won't come up.

You can also pull it with the wire, if you can hook it with a section of pipe with a hook on the bottom.
